A Simple Art Activity to Teach Your Kids To Just Be Kind
Teaching our kids to be kind.
Our cubs have lots of toys. We constantly sort through them, chucking stuff out, giving a whole load away, or sorting them into categories (this helps to actually assess what they play with and make everything easier to find.) I often dread going into stores with our cubs because of the inevitable moans and whinges and Why not? 's.
I've found I give a little speech before we go in, anyone else do this?
"We're just here to buy milk" or "I'm just getting envelopes, please don't ask for toys. You can look but if you ask me for anything the answer will be no."
I laugh writing this knowing that almost every time on these occasions I have to say,
"What did I say before we came in?"
We love to find ways to teach our cubs about kindness and blessing others, not just for the holiday season, but for any season. This activity is helping us teach them the importance of generosity and giving, not just receiving. Even in the simplest of ways of posting a card with an encouraging word, or painting a picture, we want to get our kids into the habit of giving to others in ways they can. We can't often afford to buy things for others but there are many ways to bless people without spending a huge amount.
Here's an idea to get you started.
Head over to our store, --> HERE<-- where we have a collection of downloadable art prints. Each word has a 2-for-1 offer with two designs included.
Pick a word for a friend or family member, download and print it out on white card.
Give the colour splash print to a friend and give your cubs the B&W print.
Set your cubs up with some finger paints and let them go crazy decorating it. Or give them very particular and neat instructions!
Ask them who they could give it to - a friend/parent/grandparent to encourage them.
You could always have them write with it:
Mum we love you deeply.
Granny you are so devoted to us.
You are a great Dad.
Sis, you are a delight.
Brother, you are such a dude.
Friend keep dreaming.
Why not give it to the local milkman or postman with the word Deliver.
You get the idea. Have some fun with it. Choose donkey, for a little cub you know who loves Eeyore!
I want to be more DEVOTED to my cubs, my friends and to Jesus this year, so I chose this one. Head >here< to read about my word for the year.
Or give the fancy lettering a go yourself and write whatever you like.
Kindness - giving to others and encouraging people can be done in many ways, but it's so special when you get to make something yourself to give away to brighten up someone's day.
